Edita Gruberová

Edita Gruberová

After so many rave reviews in the official media following Edita Gruberová’s show, I didn’t feel any urge or desire to pass comment on this concert. But almost one week later, I’m still hearing about the magical impact she had on all those who managed to make it along.

And I have to say I’ve changed my mind. As I understand it, if someone truly deserves praise, no matter how many others share your view, you have to give your two pennies’ worth. On entering the space, I wasn’t exactly surprised to see the concert hall almost full to the brim, but rather to spot so many young faces flock to listen to the queen of bel canto and witness everyone – young and old – speak so favourably of her breathtaking performance.

The positive feedback from the audience only intensified as the concert drew to a close – with a standing ovation which could leave nobody in any doubt that all praise for the Slovak opera star came from the heart. Leading the orchestra was Peter Valentovič, whose efforts were duly recognised by the evening’s main protagonists.

All of this was enriched by performances from a number of well-known Czech artists including Hana Maciuchová, Kryštof Marek, Jaroslav Březina, Jan Chalupecký, Eduard Klezl and Leona Machálková.
