Hollywood Night XXL

Hollywood Night XXL

We have been playing Hollywood films for several years now and it's great to see interest in the genre as strong as ever. But it has to be said we were all especially excited about Hollywood XXL.

And not just since this marked a break from tradition – seeing us extend the format to 3 x 45 minutes of pure music with two breaks – but most of all because it gave us the chance to respond to audience feedback and appeal to their eclectic taste in film music.

We did this by asking you directly to share your favourite movie soundtracks to feature in the third and final part of the programme. And what an amazing range of suggestions came flooding in! From Schindler's List, The Magnificent Seven to Pirates of the Caribbean.

The live music was complemented by scenes from each film projected onto the big screen making for a far more authentic and truly magical experience. Moreover the close-up shots of the individual soloists and sections of the orchestra placing their artistic delivery in the limelight worked a treat.

High quality sound and lighting were the perfect final touches creating an extra special concert atmosphere which raised the bar higher than ever before. The chorus comprising the CNSO choir and the Jeremy Winston Chorale including some excellent solo performances also made for a wonderful addition.

The evening proved that film music clearly still draws in the crowds with the number of fans growing all the time. Our hats go off to the dramaturgical team and may they keep up the excellent work.
