Hetty Kate

One of Australia’s best loved jazz singers, Hetty Kate feels just at home in intimate jazz clubs as fronting symphony orchestras inside huge concert halls.
Born in the English county of Hampshire, she grew up listening to the albums of Doris Day and Frank Sinatra. Hetty moved to Melbourne with her family at a young age and was later inspired by the city’s thriving music scene. After studying classical singing, she returned to her first love, the jazz classics, and has since carved out a career as one of the country’s foremost interpreters of popular songs from yesteryear.
Her sweet sound, crystal clear tone and unwavering sensitivity for swing are a perfect fit for the music she interprets. Her main sources of inspiration include Peggy Lee, June Christy and Ella Fitzgerald. Hetty sings with a range of bands performing thirties swing, though also plays with orchestras and bands interpreting modern interpretations of the Great American Songbook.
With six albums under her belt including two with ABC Jazz, Hetty Kate is well and truly an established name on the scene. Having toured extensively including to North and South America, Europe and Asia both with her own projects and bands plus as a guest singer, she also regularly gives concerts with Australian jazz icon James Morrison. To date she has appeared alongside him and local symphony orchestras at sell-out venues in Melbourne, Tasmania, Sydney, Hong Kong plus Auckland and Christchurch in New Zealand. Her natural talent and infectious sense of humour make Hetty the perfect addition to James Morrison’s new band, Inheritance which she appears with when in Australia.
From New York, Tokyo all the way to Melbourne, Hetty Kate is regarded as one of the most sought after jazz singers working right now. Not only has she garnered respect from her fellow artists, but she is also highly admired by audiences and critics alike and has a devoted following.
